A Division of John McLeod Ltd.
John McLeod was a Scottish engineer who immigrated to Canada and he fell in love with Vermont, then
took his hobby of woodturning and made it his excuse to live in Vermont.
John worked as an individual craftsman for a number of years, perfecting the techniques of the construction of
large wooden bowls,
as well as the presentation of a large number of wooden tableware and kitchenware items, such as
cutting boards,
serving boards,
Scottish sprutles, and even an
Irish potato masher. The business
went through all the traditional stages of borrowed workshops, house basements, tiny converted gas
stations and property purchases followed by five factory extensions. Eventually, after requests from a
large group of stores and much trial and error, a production turning method was invented and developed.
The traditional skills of the individual craftsman were now allied to the latest technology.
The John McLeod factory, located adjacent to the John McLeod store now employees craftspeople, both men and women,
young and old, who have been producing high quality wooden products for over 30 years.
