not reason why they can't be enjoyed when you're NOT on vacation.

We make ALL our pancake mixes, and that's important. Why? Quality-control and cost. Years ago we used to purchase pancake mixes wholesale, but
they were very expensive and we hardly made any money at all. Making ALL our own pancake mixes isn't cheap either, but at least now we make a little
more money and have complete control over quality. After all, when you're selling the best pure maple syrup, then you're
pancake mixes should be the best as well.

Ted & Spike
Who are Ted & Spike? Not too long ago the Robb Farm use to gather their maple sap using a team of draft horses named Ted & Spike. The horses pulled
a big wooden sled that carried a tank for the sap. Sap was collected from the maple trees by hand and the buckets were dumped into the
sled's tank, whereby Ted & Spike would pull the sled back to the sugarhouse for boiling. If you ever saw these "Gentle Giants" work, it was an amazing
demonstration of strength. To make 400 gallons of pure maple syrup, more than 16,000 gallons of maple sap need to be collected, or roughly 224,000 lbs.
of sap.
Why not use a tractor? Well frankly not any old tractor would work. Remember, these rural woods are often still deep
with snowpack during the spring sugaring season. Some sugarers use a bulldozer these days,
or modern plastic piping. Ted & Spike eventually had to retire so now the Robbs use both tubing and their farm tractor or trucks.
YUP! It doesn't take long to realize that pure maple syrup is a luxury, because the amount of work
involved to make it is very labor intensive and costly. Making Vermont maple syrup is a tradition though, and one that the Robbs
are committed to continue.
