Chad & Mary Metayer, Owners
1996 - Chad Metayer and a lifetime friend buy an existing Vermont products wholesale business. They change the name and
add a downtown retail store on N. Main Street in St. Albans, Vermont.
2000 - Chad Metayer purchases complete ownership of the business and focuses on both wholesale maple products as well
as expanding the success of the "old-fashioned" candy store downtown location. The store will sell maple products, including
maple popcorn, maple fudge, and maple sugar-coated nuts, as well as old-fashioned candies and Vermont souvenirs.
2004 - A "grass roots" website was added.
2007 - The name Maple City Cards & Candy is changed to simply Maple City Candy and
the business partners with the PIECES OF VERMONT® website to develop specialty maple sugar candy gifts, supplying them
to PIECES OF VERMONT website merchants.
2008 - Candy-maker Chad Metayer makes the first
CHAMP - The Monster of all Maple Candy as envisioned by PIECES OF VERMONT owner Rick Smith. The success of the "Champ" maple candy development
encourages Chad and Rick to focus on creating more premium maple candy products.
2009 - Chad and Rick again create unique maple candy gifts that are combined with chocolate into
what is now called Chocolate-Maple FusionTM. The team also creates a rendition of
Peppermint Bark called Chocolate-Maple Bark
for the 2009 holiday season. The product is a huge success!
2010 - Maple City Candy purchases the business of Gift Baskets by Kim and will be operated and managed by Mary Metayer.
It was a smooth transition and there were no interruptions in PIECES OF VERMONT order fulfillment. Chad and Mary Metayer
"gear up" for the 2010 fall Halloween candy and Christmas shopping season. It's an extremely busy, yet
exciting time of year.
2011 - A new box of maple candies is offered - Shamrocks! This affordable gift at just $9.95 is in response to customer
wishes to keep prices as low as possible during these tough economic times, without sacrificing quality. DONE! Twelve pieces of the same
melt-in-your-mouth pure maple sugar candy, shipped via USPS Priority Mail for just $5.95! This St. Patrick's Day, wish someone special
a little Irish Luck and turn their day into a pot of gold.
Mission - The mission of Maple City Candy is a devotion to stay local and buy/utilize pure maple syrup from maple
sugarhouses located in northern, Vermont, including the Cold Hollow Career Center high
school forestry program.
Where do we go from here? - PIECES OF VERMONT owner Rick Smith and the Metayers are committed to
a long-term relationship of providing our customers with the absolute best Vermont specialty gifts, with particular emphasis on the further development
of luxury maple sugar candy and chocolate-maple candy gifts, made right here in the USA. And we greatly appreciate your business!
