John McLeod Ltd. History
Thirty Years ago this Memorial day 2006 John McLeod opened his workshop and store on West Main Street in Wilmington, Vermont. The store opened in the old gas station and had a square footage of 72 square feet, the workshop a whopping 425 square feet. Gradually the workshop left the basement of his house. In the story of almost every successful entrepreneur there is a moment when the business turns the corner and grows up into a fully fledged enterprise. So it happened in 1979 and in 1980 the first extension to the stores and the factory was constructed. Expansion of the business and the plant have continued to this day, and thirty years have slipped past with milestones, such as being one of the first woodworking companies in New England to grasp the new robotic technology, patents being gained, arcane techniques being invented and developed which make the company an unequalled manufacturer of cutting boards (like the ones shown above), wooden bowls and similar woodenware items.
